In this edition of Behind the Business, we’re proud to spotlight a woman whose strength, resilience, and dedication have shaped not only her own journey but also the success of countless businesses across Australia. Meet Tracy Sellers, a proud Kurtjar woman, mother, and Bookkeeping Consultant whose story reminds us that strength comes from knowledge, community, and the courage to ask questions.
Who Is the Woman Behind the Business?
Born in Brisbane and deeply connected to her Kurtjar heritage, Tracy is a mother to two boys who share her love for nature and the outdoors. Whether it’s fishing, four-wheel driving, or soaking up the sun at the beach, her family finds joy in the simple, grounding pleasures of life. With 25 years of experience in bookkeeping, Tracy is a Registered BAS Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board and a member of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers, a testament to her professionalism and commitment to excellence.
Building a Business with Purpose
Tracy launched Ironbark Industries Bookkeeping in 2009 while working part-time, driven by a desire to create a flexible work-life balance that supported her growing family. As her children have grown, so too has the business , evolving from a small venture into a thriving consultancy. With expertise in MYOB, Xero, QBO, and other specialised software, Tracy tailors her services to meet the unique needs of each client, offering everything from full-service bookkeeping to support with specific tasks. Operating in the bookkeeping industry for over two decades, Tracy brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to her clients. For the past 16 years, she’s run her own business, adapting to the evolving digital landscape and expanding her reach far beyond her local community.
A National Footprint
Thanks to cloud-based accounting platforms, Ironbark Industries Bookkeeping now serves clients across Australia. From regional towns to bustling cities, Tracy supports businesses nationwide with precision and care, proving that geography is no barrier to quality service.
Tracy’s message to other Indigenous Women in business is clear and empowering:
“Don’t be afraid to give it a go, everyone has to start somewhere. Ask all the questions; the only silly question is the one you don’t ask. If you have the question, it’s likely someone else will too. There are people out there who are willing to share knowledge and mentor new business owners.”
Setting Up for Success
While Tracy doesn’t follow a rigid routine at the start of each year, she values a clean and organised workspace and aims to clear overdue tasks to stay focused. She also reflects on her goals, both personal and professional, to set a clear direction for the year ahead. Whether it’s expanding her business or planning family adventures, she believes in working toward something meaningful.
We asked Tracey what makes you Strong Woman?
“I have learnt from all of those that have come before me and I am not afraid to ask questions if I don’t know something.”
It’s this openness, combined with her deep respect for those who paved the way, that makes her a true role model, not just in business, but in life.
